Importing GIS data

- [Gordon] Importing GIS data converts the various industry standard formats directly into AutoCAD objects. Most GIS data has a rich set of attributes attached. So to maintain this, we store the attributes in object data. Once we import the data, the original data is no longer necessary, or used, although, AutoCAD map can use most GIS formats. In fact, you can drag and drop a shapefile, and edit it natively. In this session, we're going to show you how to import that shapefile, and have it turn into AutoCAD objects. Let's do that now. First, we choose the insert ribbon, and we click under import, map import. Let's browse for the shapefile that we want, which is in chapter six. In files of type, we have a lot of choices. We have ASCII Point files, text files, Autodesk SDF, GML, shapefiles, map info, MicroStation and so on. Let's choose ESRI Shapefile. We're going to choose Guelph Trails, and click okay.
