Overlay analysis - AutoCAD Tutorial
From the course: AutoCAD Map 3D Essential Training
Overlay analysis
- Superimposing two GIS spector layers to generate a combined graphics and attributes layer is called an overlay analysis. In this lesson you will overlay zoning with buildings so the resulting layer will have buildings that have all the zoning information attached to it. Currently the buildings don't. Let's add the zonings and the buildings. You can see here the brown buildings. I'll pick on one of them and look at the properties. It only has a Feature ID and ID. The zoning only has a Zone Designation and ID. So what we want to do is intersect the two so that these buildings have a zoning designation. So, under Analyze ribbon, click the Feature overlay. The source will be the zoning, and the overlay will be the buildings. We have a number of choices here. We have Intersect, Union, Erase, Identity, Clip, Paste, and Symmetric Difference. We're just going to use the intersect in this case, because when we use a polygon with polygon, the result will be the building polygons. Click Next…
