Splitting GIS data
- [Instructor] Splitting GIS vector data can mean losing attribute data. With AutoCAD Map 3D Toolset, the split tool automatically copies the attribute data to both new features after the split. Let's split a large parcel in half, keeping the attribute data for the parcel in both halves of the split. So in your GUELPH.dwg found in Exercise Files Chapter 11, 11_01, let's drag and drop the PARCEL_SPLIT.sdf into it. You'll see it's set between two points above and beneath the parcel. There's only one parcel in this SDF and that's the one we're going to split but before we split it, let's look at some of the rules. Let's pick on parcels in the display manager and click table. In here, we can go to options, split and merge rules. The reason the split and merge rules are here in the data table is because it's the data that we're looking into, the attribute data.
