Stylizing raster layers

- Raster images can not be styled but raster services can. Raster services can be color coded based on elevation, slope, or aspect. In this lesson you will use a pre-ken palette based on the USGS, United States Geological Survey, color palette. Let's add the DEM now. Click data, connect to data. Let's change the connection name to DEM and let's browse to the GUELPH_EAST.dem. Click open. Click connect. Click add to map and once it's added we'll close the data connect window. The default green color does not express the elevations very well. You can barely make out the elevations with the green. So by using a palette we can change the colors so in two-dimensions we can see the various elevations. So let's double-click on GUELPH_EAST. Where the band says one, under theme pick the dropdown and choose theme again. Under specify theme, check the palette. In the dropdown box, pick the USGS National Map palette. Click OK and apply.
