- [Instructor] Color coding your GIS vector data based on an attribute in the data is called a thematic layer. The medic layers can be based on points, lines or polygons. Typically a theme might include the color coding of your parcels based on zoning. That's exactly what we're going to do. Let's open up the DWG found under exercise files chapter eight 08_02, and then we're going to drag and drop the zoning SDF into it. Now the default color or style is always assigned as soon as you drag and drop something into your new DWG. In this case, it's almost a mustard yellow color. But what I want to do is color code each individual parcel based on some data. Now, if I zoom in and I pick on a particular parcel, I right click and look at the properties in the Property pane, you can see it has the zone one designation. It's those zone one designations.
