Using the exercise files

- [Instructor] There are numerous exercise files that you will need to download from the website to take your AutoCAD 2018 course. When you're using the exercise files, I will normally prompt you in each video as to which file you should be using to follow along with the videos. So for example, if you look at the top of the AutoCAD screen at the moment, you can see that we're using the file 00_Introduction.dwg. .dwg is the native file type for AutoCAD, in the same way that the .doc file is the native file type for Microsoft Word. Also be aware with your exercise files though that Autodesk have brought out a new .dwg file format for AutoCAD 2018, so you now have a 2018 DWG file format. If you save as that file format, be aware that you can only open those 2018 DWGs in AutoCAD 2018. You will need to save back to a previous file type if you want to open those files at a later date in an older version of AutoCAD.
