Working with XREFs
- [Voiceover] We're now in another section of our AutoCAD 2017 Essentials course. We're going to be looking at External References or External Reference Files, more commonly known as XREFs. And an XREF is basically a drawing that is in essence electronically paper-clipped behind your current what they call host drawing. So you'll notice we're back to the building drawing with the grids, the dimensions, the walls, the doors, the windows. However, you'll notice there is a dashed line going around the building. Now that is the property line. So for example, if you were buying this building, that would be the edges of the property that you own. Now obviously it's a fictitious property line for this particular drawing, but it is an XREF. Now how do you know that there is an XREF in your AutoCAD host drawing? Look at the status bar, bottom right. Can you see a little orange icon just there? That's telling me that there's an XREF loaded into this drawing. And if I want to manage that XREF, I…
