- [Instructor] So now I want to talk about artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence or AI is an area of technology that enables computers to simulate human behavior. And it has many applications. What we're interested in in this video is a field of artificial intelligence called machine learning. Machine learning is all about getting computers to act without explicitly programming them. It uses existing data to predict future events, behaviors, outcomes, and trends. If I gave you all of my supermarket bills for the last 12 months, I'm certain that you could make a reasonable prediction what I was likely to buy on my next trip to the supermarket. And this is essentially what machine learning is all about. And it's everywhere in our society. It's used by banks to detect fraud. It's in your car, maybe even your vacuum cleaner.
