What you should know

- [Instructor] In this course we'll be using CentOS 7 Linux. CentOS 7 Linux is a near exact clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. CentOS 7 is freely downloadable from CentoOS.org. If you have access to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, you can use it as well. We'll be running CentOS 7 in multiple virtual machines in Virtual Box. You can run Virtual Box on any host operating system including Windows, Mac OS, or Linux. You may want to have high-speed internet for doing Linux OS software updates. You will also want 16 to 20 gigabytes of free hard drive space for the Linux virtual machines. If you took my previous course, titled Linux Overview and Installation, you can keep using that CentOS 7 virtual machine if you wish. If you did not, you can use a standard CentOS 7 server with GUI installation. This means that while installing CentOS, you want to choose Server with GUI, on the software selection screen. While installing, you'll also want to make sure the first user is an administrator. You will also need general networking knowledge. The purpose of this course is not to teach networking, but rather demonstrate how to network using Linux.
