- [Instructor] So let's talk about some of the basic parameters that you're going to run into a lot of when you're using software instruments. So what I've done here is I've opened a simple polysynth. (tones playing) We have our groove here. So what I'm going to do is I'm actually just going to go ahead and take a look at the envelopes because that's the main thing that I want you to think about. So basically we've got a couple of different envelopes. We've got one for the amplitude and one for the filter. Now the amplitude envelope is going to be the one that controls the overall volume curve of the patch that you're using as you hit a note. So we've got attack, decay, sustain, release. It's very simple, attack, decay and release are all time functions. Sustain is a level. So let's talk attack and decay.
