- [Instructor] Animation is the meat of a project's pipeline, but with so much digital content creation software out there, each with their own style of materials, lighting, and rendering engines, how will you ever be able to make sense of it all? The answer? Alembic mesh caches. Alembic is an open source standard format that let's you translate data between multiple programs, like Maya, Blender, and Houdini, and it's supported by Sony Imageworks and Lucasfilm. So let's take a look at how this works in production. So let's assume that your animator and modeler created their scene inside of Blender, but you use Maya for lighting, and Houdini for effects. So, what are you to do? Well actually, it's pretty straightforward. First, let's select the things that we want. I know I want this camera, and this ground, and I know I want this character, which already has been unwrapped in a previous scene.
