Modeling the hammer head

- Now that we have the reference image, let's start modelling the hammer. So I'll come over here to the Create tab, and I'll begin up here with the hammer head. And anytime you see an object that is symmetrical around one of the axes, so here is the z axis, the blue line. You can see that the hammer head is symmetrical on both sides of that axis. That's a good candidate for using the Mirror Modifier. So to begin, I'll go ahead and just create a cube here. And I'll drag this up to the area where the hammer is. And I'm going to press the z key to turn on Wireframe, so I can see through the object to the reference image. I'll now press the s key, and I'll scale this up to begin to fit it to the hammer. Something like that. Going to zoom in a bit. Now, I'm going to tumble out of this. I'm just going to press the middle mouse button and tumble out of this, just so I can see how it looks, the width of it. I think that looks pretty good.
