- Hi, Jim Rogers here, and I'm back this week to continue or deep dive into construction productivity issues. This week I'm going to narrow the focus and look directly at what we call productivity at the workface. This is really just another way of saying actual manpower productivity. We already talked a little bit about the time we lose when we add time in our schedule in between our trades. That's just dead time. Nothing happens. But the clock's ticking. Well, the reason that time gets added is that when the general contractor's producing a construction schedule, they're working to give their best guess at how long an activity will take. Now that should certainly be an educated guess, but sometimes even the best of plans runs into problems. And problems on a construction site tend to translate to delays.
