- Hi and welcome to another course in our series of classes on Bluebeam. These classes are designed for the AEC industry and they're really meant to teach architects, engineers, and construction management professionals how to leverage this software to help improve efficiency within the construction project team. My name's Jim Rogers and I've spent several decades in the construction industry. I started out in the field at a time when technology played virtually no role in the industry. Construction drawings were still blueprints, safety was usually an afterthought, and the entire construction management process was either not documented very well, or if it was, it was really an exercise in paperwork and Polaroids, as we struggled to document, record, and keep the management team up to date. Now, I've watched our industry undergo an incredible transformation as we began first to use desktop computers and spreadsheet software, and then progress to CAD drawings and email, and now, on to today, where we're really trying to figure out how to leverage all of the advances that technology's introducing to the construction industry. Now, Bluebeam Revu is much more than just another PDF program. It's advanced digital document management software that's made for our industry. It's made to handle large sets of construction drawings and it's made to really help us improve our efficiency by moving closer to that dream of a paperless environment. Now, our industry's never been one to gracefully accept change, and over the years, we've actually become really good at managing the cumbersome paper flow processes on our projects. Now, unfortunately, when you combine these realities, what you do start to see is the fact that even though technology is bringing us great new tools, we need to do a better job at learning not how to use these tools to improve our existing paper processes, but rather how to embrace these tools to develop new processes that don't involve paper. So stick with me as we take a look at how to use Bluebeam Revu to replace our piles of large format drawings with digital documents that are always up to date and easy for the entire project team to access.
