Introducing the proxy

- In this video, we'll meet out new best friend, the proxy. The proxy is a simple, point object but has the very handy ability to link to other geometry in the hierarchy. This makes all animation much easier. The hierarchy can be as simple or complex as you like and you can even use more than one proxy if needed. But in this course, we'll stick with just one. Now I've turned my pivot points back on. You'll see that bright x, y, and z's all over the geometry. Those pivots are what exactly will be linked to our proxy as soon as we create it. Now just a heads up, why we're using a proxy versus a group, which most beginners focus on first. Problem number one, is any time you use a group you will eventually have to ungroup it for a reason like applying a different material. As soon as the ungroup is performed, all animation is lost, as the group no longer exists. The second problem of grouping, is groups may have conflicting origins and therefore rotate independently.
