- In this section, I'll show you some of my pet peeve issues with proposals, quotes, and statements of work. If you take nothing else from this section, take this, please, for the love of all you hold dear, include some basic terms and conditions in your quotes and proposals. At the very least, you should include items that discuss the following: how long is the quote or proposal valid? If you fail to include this information, you could be faced with the requirement to deliver something that isn't available to you at the same price it was when the quote was sent, could be unavailable, or impossible to deliver. These mistakes are at worst financially costly and at best, an unnecessary strain on your business relationships. Two, alteration of the terms not permitted. Do not let the partner pencil in some changes or you could find yourself bound to do work that you never thought you agreed to. Three, payment terms.
