- I've been working with contracts for over 15 years. In my experience, there are several issues that I've seen pop up over and over again. Here they are. One, signed contracts. This may sound ridiculous, but in nearly half of the cases I end up getting involved with no one can seem to locate or produce a signed contract. PDF's are perfectly fine and admissible in court. In this age where I can walk around with all of the knowledge of humanity on a handheld device, there is absolutely no excuse to work at risk. That is to say, without a signed contract. Just don't do it. Make it your company policy and never break it. Two, lack of teeth in payment provisions. We've gone over this several times already. Make sure your contract says something more than you'll be paid in 30 days. Most contracts will read something like, service provider will be paid in 30 days.
