Exponents and square roots

- In this movie I'm going to introduce a couple of new concepts, exponents and square roots. So you maybe remember exponents from PEMDAS. So exponents basically just tell us how many times something is multiplied by itself. So I'll give you an example. Let's say somebody said, "What is two squared?" Or two to the second power. We can actually just translate that, or rewrite it as two times two. So I'll give you another example. What is three to the second power, or three squared? That is three times three. So the exponent, this little thing, just tells us how many times to multiply the number by itself. So it works for bigger numbers, too. Let's say I had four to the fourth power. That would be four times four times four times four. So exponents are kind of just like shorthand to tell us how many times is the number multiplied by itself. Another notation that you'll see in math is a square root. So square root looks like this. Now let's say we had the square root of 25. What this is…
