- Purchasing a human resource information system is an inside out job. What are the internal factors that will impact your purchasing decision? Let me share three of the most important. First, there's your budget. How much will the HRIS cost? The answer to that question ranges from as low as $3 per employee per month to as high as $15 per employee per month. Some employers get their HRIS for free because they work with their insurance broker who adds it in as a value added service. While many HRIS vendors tap the ROI in purchasing these systems, I find it difficult to develop that math. Much of the cost savings comes from employee self-service, meaning employees don't have to bug HR. Additional efficiencies are generated and saving the time required to pull various reports. My belief system is you should have the best technology possible to manage the data of your employees.
