- Implementing an HRIS is a big undertaking. In my experience, full implementation can take up to a year or even more. Finance, HR, IT and other departments must be involved with implementation both upfront as well as on the back end. Knowing the size of the challenge, many companies will identify internal talent or program management teams. Other companies pay vendors or consultants to come in and do the initial setup and implementation. They can either continue to support the program from there or take a more consultative approach, being used on an as-needed basis. Many companies will train power users to ultimately train the rest of the company. Some of this can be done in person, but of course most of the training for administrators, managers, and employees will be done online.
