Setting up your paper-management system
- As you learned in the previous movie, different types of documents have different needs based on their types and uses. Let's talk about some of the supplies you'll need for your system, and how to determine where to store each paper type. Supplies you'll need: a trash can or recycle bin, a shredder, one action file, we'll talk about this more in the next movie. One or two file cabinets, a waterproof and fireproof box or safe, or safety deposit box, a scanner, and hanging file folders with tabs. Optionally, you might also want a rubber "Scanned" stamp and a label maker. To set up your supplies, I recommend the trash can and shredder both be placed right near where you enter the building with your papers. As soon as anyone enters with papers, stop here and throw away or shred anything that you don't need to keep. Your waterproof and fireproof box or safe should be kept somewhere secure and out of sight of thieves. You should keep some of your vital documents, such as birth…
