- Time is our most valuable resource. Yet studies show that we squander nearly half of it in meetings. My firm and I have helped both large and small companies simplify their work day with eight best practices for decreasing the amount of time consumed by meetings. To spend less time in conference rooms and more time on work that truly matters, choose one of these tactics to try this week. First, kill stupid meetings. At the tel-com company, Spirit, key business units reviewed every business meeting held in one year. From recurring meetings and events to off-sites and team gatherings. And they eliminated 18% of them. If the average meeting lasts 30 minutes that's like getting back a full day every week.
