- Now that you've chosen a scanner that suits your needs, let's talk about the options available in your scanner settings. Depending on the scanner you selected, you may have some of these features available. The software. Although a growing number of popular programs such as Microsoft Word and Adobe have integrated scanning options, your best choice will usually be the software that comes with the scanner. Unless you have a specific need not addressed by the included software, it will most often prove to be the easiest to set up and the most straightforward to use. The storage.
