- When you're giving feedback, it's really important to check for understanding. So when you are receiving feedback, do the other person a favor and signal that you understand and appreciate what they're saying. Here's how you can do that. Check for understanding. Listen intently and then do your best to repeat back what you think they said. Use your own words as best as possible, don't just repeat things verbatim. And then, ask them if what you said is accurate. Is that what you're sharing with me? Did I process that correctly? If they say no, then break it down into smaller, more specific questions to find the communication breakdown. Checking to make sure you understand is an essential part of receiving feedback.
