Addressing unethical behavior

- Unethical behavior at work is quite common. Part of being an effective leader is knowing how to handle these situations. I'm referring here to unethical behavior, not illegal behavior, for example, speaking to others inappropriately, taking office supplies, arriving habitually late, lying to hide mistakes, taking credit for work that isn't yours or misusing the internet. These are damaging behaviors that may or may not break company policy, but fall short of being criminal offenses. So if you see or become aware of unethical behaviors at work, what do you do? Your first task is quick and informal fact-finding. Don't believe your eyes or what someone tells you. If possible, go verify what you think just happened really did happen.
