Assessing the organization

- Leading without fully understanding your organization is like putting together an IKEA living room set without the instructions. You might get it done, but you're probably going to make some big mistakes, have to do some work twice, maybe even three times, and are likely to end up with an end result that looks quite different from the picture online. Assessing your organization gives you a roadmap that identifies potential paths and potential roadblocks, allowing you to maneuver more deftly and lead more strategically. One of the most common tools for conducting this type of assessment is called a SWOT. I want to walk you through the parts of a SWOT so you can do one on your organization. S stands for strengths.
