Bargain like a pro

- Once you've both put opening offers down on the table, we then go into the third phase of negotiating, which is bargaining. This is what people think negotiating is, but actually, by the time you get to this stage, most of the money has already gone because the preparing and the opening offers are huge. But nevertheless, when you bargain, you've got to be careful, and there are certain things to do. And I've got four main points I want to make about the bargaining process. So the first one is move in small steps. Why would you not? And yet, I've noticed when I run training courses, this is probably the biggest mistake people make. They move in a great big step from their starting position. So they're asking for 50 grand and they go, "All right, how about 40?" And you think, no, you've just given away 10,000 pounds. You've given away 20% of the money and all of your profit. So from 50 grand, they should go to 49. So move…
