Being judgmental versus having good judgment

- We can't help judging other people, ideas, and things. It's how we make sense of the world. But there's a difference between a judgemental mindset and the judgment mindset. And this difference impacts the effectiveness of our judgements and decisions. Judgemental mindset makes claims, based on limited information. He seems content. That idea's ridiculous. This mindset makes sense when we're judging quickly. If you hear your boss barking on the phone, you probably don't have to analyze a lot of data to judge that she's not happy, so it's best not to barge into her office to ask for that promotion. The judgment mindset applies data, information, and analysis to get at the heart of a situation. The point isn't never be judgemental. What you want is to stop yourself from slipping into the easier judgemental mindset, when you should slow down and embrace the judgment mindset to get to the heart of important decisions…
