Being remote isn’t why we struggle

- Physical distance is actually not what causes the failures associated with remote and virtual teams' challenges. Now, by the way, there are failures and there are challenges. We have seen in our research that 50% of virtual teams report to being overwhelmed, 82% have reported failure of achieving all of their goals, and many teams report a decreased level of trust, but the problem is not physical distance. The problem isn't that we're remote and virtual. The problem is that by going remote and virtual, there are processes that need to be orchestrated very purposely to assure the real distance doesn't bite us in the bum. Now, the real distance is strategic distance, meaning a lack of alignment. You're going to have to work hard in a virtual environment to make sure you have alignment.
