- One area that I've seen a lot of managers and leaders go wrong in their coaching is that they don't have a specific methodology. Instead, they just shoot from the hip. I've found that if you put specific steps in place and have some structure around your coaching, you're much more likely to be successful. Structure allows your team to have a better idea of what's expected of them, and to identify more opportunities for success to reach their goals. I want to offer you how I structure coaching, so you have a framework to work from. The model I use is called GROW. It has been around for some time and it's commonly used. There are, however, some variations of what the G-R-O-W stands for. Most commonly, it's goal, reality, options, way forward.
