Best time to get a job is when you have a job

- Have you ever heard the phrase the best time to get a job is if you have a job? Well, it's true. And there are a few different reasons for this. First, employers want people to have fresh skills. If you've been unemployed for a while, you probably aren't as current as someone who's working in a job right now and is looking to switch firms. The second reason that employers prefer people who have jobs over people who might not, is that they've survived layoffs. Even if there are layoffs that are out there, the folks who have the jobs are then perceived as more valuable than people who will have been laid off. The third reason that people with jobs are perceived as more valuable is simply because they have other options. This means that if you want to hire someone, you actually might have to pay more, not just more than they're making, but potentially a lot more than someone who's unemployed.
