Coaching across generations
- For the first time in history, managers in the workplace today have up to five generations within their team. From Traditionalists born before 1946, Baby Boomers born before 1965, Generation X born before 1981, Millennials or Generation Y born before 1997, and Generation Z or Digital Natives born 1997 or onwards. These dates aren't set in stone, and actually some argue there are additional lost generations or generational subcultures which haven't been accounted for. How generations broadly behave is partly down to their life stage. Generation Y are at ages where they may be starting families, for example, which could influence their desire for a positive focus on work/life blend. There are also socioeconomic factors at play. Digital Natives have entered the workplace after a time of global financial and economic uncertainty which could influence a desire for stability. This is all useful and interesting information…
