- A matrix organization is big, complicated, and at times, hard to navigate. Coaching within this environment requires specific skills and knowledge. What do I mean by a matrix organization? These companies are normally very large and often multinational. Dual reporting lines make the structure complicated because managers must assume multiple roles within two dimensions. And it can be really tricky to work out roles and responsibilities and to create effective and high-performing teams.
