Commitment starts when the fun stops
- Commitment really starts when the fun stops. Or as one of my teammates very eloquently put it, "Hey, guys, we're not going to find out how committed we are to the finish line until the race starts sucking." And boy, did I learn a big lesson in total commitment in the Eco-Challenge in Borneo where the fun had stopped for us about five days earlier. And we're racing the best team in the world, the top French team, team in our sport, which we also called the Terminators over the years. And we think we have about a three-hour lead on them going into the last day of the race. And it appeared as though all we had to do was just run into these caves, ascend these four ropes, run down the little ridgeline, jump into our boats, paddle 60 miles to the finish, and yay, we're going to win the Eco-Challenge.
