- Another common driver of anxiety in salespeople is competitiveness. Sales is a profession that can be easily measured by numbers. Number of sales made, gross margin from sales, leads created, calls made, win/loss percentages, time spent on the phone. You name it, it can be quantified and compared to others. This, alongside the fact that salespeople are often naturally competitive, in fact, it's usually the reason we've ended up in the sales profession, means it can be an anxious focus for a lot of salespeople, and often unjustly. Now, being competitive is a good thing, to an extent. It can push you to achieve more than you ever could without the competition.
