Conduct a culture assessment
- Step number one in harassment prevention is a culture assessment. It's a good idea to understand what your culture is like now, and whether your prevention efforts so far are sending the right message. Ignorance is not bliss. Knowledge is power. And the more you know about your culture, the more strategic your actions can be. If you're already doing a survey, check through the questions you're asking and determine if any of them speak to your harassment prevention efforts. If you're not doing a survey of any kind currently, I recommend you start. Either way, consider asking survey takers to rate statements like, "How comfortable or uncomfortable "would you feel to talk to a coworker who did "or said something moderately inappropriate? "How comfortable or uncomfortable would you feel "to report harassment to your manager? "How positive or negative is your workplace?" I've provided more details on these and other…
