Covering at work

- Do you ever feel like you have to hide part of your identity at work? When your coworkers ask what you did over the weekend, do you think about what you did and then run that through a filter in your mind narrowing it down on the parts of your weekend? Do you actually feel comfortable or safe sharing? Maybe you don't want your colleagues to know you have a same-sex partner or you were taking your parent to chemo or were working a second job to help pay the bills. So you say something safe like, "I went to the beach." Or, "Not much, just hung out." If you're sharing a filtered version of what you did over the weekend, then you're probably hiding at least a few of the many aspects that make up who you are. And even if you don't feel the pressure to filter, I can assure you at least one of your colleagues does.
