- Let's talk about organizational habits to cultivate belonging. One is that of listening. In a meeting, this isn't just about listening to the participants who speak up. It's also actively listening for who is not saying anything, and then after that meeting, to seek that person out for their perspective. In the meeting, you may have people who are at ease piping up and sharing their thoughts. And then you might have others on the team who will need a longer time to process and are better at sharing their thoughts in a one on one conversation. Activate their sense of belonging by asking, "What do you think?" Now imagine the great ideas or potential issues that you can uncover if you have listening as an organizational habit.
