Cross-team collaboration
- We've already learned a lot about how managers work to facilitate communication between themselves and their teams. Managers also play a valuable role in enabling work between teams in and outside of their organizations. A common type of collaboration you may already be familiar with, is how teams work with the executive and strategic teams within their organization. This is a regular part of how most businesses operate. In this form of collaboration, you'll be given goals and requirements from the levels above you, and then you'll bring these to your team in an accessible forum. In healthy workplace cultures, you should also be able to take the needs and concerns of your team through feedback back up to leadership to help shape how you work together. Collaborating with leadership teams can involve a lot of workplace politics. I'm sorry that part of your job as a manager is going to be to understand these politics…
