- [Instructor] Tony Robbins says, "Be committed in your decisions, "but flexible in your approach." The same thing is true for high stakes environments. Decide what you want as an outcome, but be flexible in how and when you get there. Why? Because if you could walk into a room and tell everybody what to do, think, or feel, the conversation wouldn't be high stakes. It becomes high stakes because the outcome is equally in and out of your control. It's within your control because you get to set the desired outcome. But it's out of your control because you can't predict people's responses. And what's the best way to lose control? Forget to set and vet your outcome beforehand. So set your desired outcome early when you're planning. Ask yourself, "What do I want stakeholders to do, "think, or feel after this conversation?" Then, practice saying it out loud.
