- Workplace issues arise. Things may seem unfair, like being overlooked for a promotion or move, or being denied a benefit. And so we need a legal solution to protect our rights as employer, or employee. For that reason, we have comprehensive laws on employment rights. Employment law normally applies when there is a breach of trust and potentially of the law itself. It's now a very specific area of practice for the legal profession, and the world over. It differs from country to country, and across sectors and industries. Paraphrasing the CIPD, the UK's professional body for HR, "Employment law covers new and updated statutes "regarding recruiting, working hours, "holiday time, rates of pay, and career opportunities." It also covers protection of individual and company information, a healthy working environment, child care, and sickness rights.
