- Empowering employees is one of the big buzzwords in organizations right now. I'll have clients say, I want to empower my employees. I want to give them the power, but that's such a paradox. If we, as leaders, grant our employees empowerment that implicitly means we can take it away. So I don't want you to give your employees power. Instead, I want you to strive to foster empowerment from within when your team feels they can make decisions and act on their own. They are far more likely to excel, and you'll be surprised at how often they exceed your expectations. Here are three things you can do to coach your team toward empowerment. The biggest way to foster empowerment is to give your team choices by allowing them to choose how and when they will accomplish things and allowing them the latitude to make decisions, set the parameters, but avoid forcing your opinions let them make their own choices.
