- We've all seen how people tend to congregate, particularly in social settings with people with whom they have a lot in common. and one major point of commonality is race or cultural background. This isn't a bad thing. In fact, it's a great idea for organizations to actively support employee resource groups that provide an opportunity for people to find support and encouragement from people with similar backgrounds or interests. At the same time, broadening and expanding relationships beyond our most natural ones can be a great way to counter stereotypes, dispel myths and simply allow people to get to know people who don't look like them and find other points of commonality. It's amazing how a simple interaction that breaks the ice and reveals a shared interest, hobby, or even a shared problem can be really bonding And oftentimes can be the spark for a new, genuine relationship.
