Establish your relationship to each major thought in your presentation
- If you're preparing to give a very important presentation at work I would hope that you are practicing a lot. One pitfall of practicing can be that your presentation becomes rigid or wrote like a book report. We want to be careful to avoid the ideas that you've worked very hard to put together becoming stale. One way to avoid this pitfall is to go through your presentation thought by thought and establish your emotional relationship to each idea you're sharing. Now what do I mean by this? Let's say you have a point in your presentation as follows. In the first quarter we are on impact to reach 3,500 more people than in the previous year. But how do you feel about that? Perhaps this is a milestone you never thought you'd reach, and it's incredibly thrilling and you're extremely proud to be able to share that. Let that shine through as you are sharing that point. This can be painstaking work but it will make you effective and persuasive in the long run.
