- In creating a fair and inclusive place of work, HR's role is as the steward of doing the right thing, not just providing the same thing. As professionals, we need to apply diverse, fair and inclusive approaches to HR processes and activities. So what exactly does that mean and how can we do that? Having overcome harsh and now illegal factors like child labor, a 70-hour week and providing benefits like maternity, sick or paid leave, employment legislation has created more fairness and diversity related legal protection for people that addresses unfair and discriminatory practices that could have a form of bias against people, with what we know as protected characteristics.
