- Sometimes, the ego's reaction to rejection is to get more proud. "Well, they don't know what they're missing, "it's their loss." Sometimes, the ego's reaction is to pretend it didn't hurt. "Well, I didn't really want it anyway." Some people engage in what's called spiritual bypassing, which is when you cling to a sort of high-minded spiritual belief in order to hopscotch over any uncomfortable feelings. "Oh, it's all good." And that way, you avoid or repress your actual feelings. But all of these mechanisms, while perfectly understandable, are going to deprive you of the depth of your true emotions. And when you dive into your true emotions, you get to learn one of the most important lessons of rejection, how to self-soothe. So I want you to do two things.
