- Leading yourself doesn't mean sentencing yourself to isolation. Now you may be thinking, well, I'm leading myself. Isn't the whole point of this not to depend on other people? Not entirely. Leading yourself requires self-awareness, commitment, and motivation, but it also requires support. So where can you find that? Your boss is often a solid foundation of support. In fact, the best bosses appreciate it when you're leading yourself. Ask your boss for reinforcing feedback, further development opportunities, and advice. Leading yourself should not strain your relationship with your boss. It should improve it. So, don't be shy. Be concise about telling your boss what kind of feedback is most empowering to you.
