- So now you've tried something, and maybe you failed or got rejected or it just didn't turn out the way you wanted. And the question is, should you try again? And you're probably having a lot of feelings about trying again. So here's a straightforward question to help you get to a real answer. It has to do with sunk costs. Now, sunk costs is something that economists talk about in regards to just about everything. Your sunk costs are the time, energy, and materials you have put into a project that you are not going to get back. There's no refund policy. And it can be deceptive, because sometimes when you've put a lot of time or energy into something, you feel like, well, I should keep going because I've already put so much time and energy into it.
