Focus on what is most valuable

- Productive leadership requires focus. There are many things you can do with your time but only one or two of those activities are truly most valuable. I call these your MVAs, your most valuable activities. As a productive leader, at least one of your MVAs must be the development of the people you lead. Training them, spending time with them, helping them grow. Why is developing others so valuable? Because it leverages your time. You could jump into the chaos all day long, do everyone's job for them, and try to micromanage their behavior, or you could focus several hours a week, developing others, empowering them, and helping develop them into leaders, which is a more productive use of time. The answer is obvious. When you create leaders, you increase your own personal freedom. You reduce the amount of time you have to spend in the long run, correcting everyone's mistakes and telling them what to do. This uncovers…
