Follow-up and action plans

- All good communication requires follow-up and closure. You should plan to meet again to revisit the original themes and see what questions have emerged and what progress has been made. Schedule this in a timeframe that makes sense. If too little time has passed, it might be unrealistic to expect that the person has had time to make many noticeable changes. If you wait too long, the feedback could be interpreted as not important and therefore forgotten or back-burnered. A great way to monitor the effectiveness of your session is to revisit the action plans you developed in the feedback conversation in the first place, and discuss what progress has been made and what further support may be necessary. So now that you've mastered feedback, find ways to make your follow-up plans more effective. Developing an intentional and thoughtful follow-up plan is the secret ingredient to ensuring your feedback takes root.
